Electric Motor
The combination of the Electric Motor, Timer II, and a multimeter make up a learning laboratory where your students not only learn how and why electric machines work, they also design machines of their own and test them for power and efficiency.
How do magnets behave and what makes an electric motor work? This is just the beginning in a series of questions that will lead to fascinating hands-on explorations using the newly redesigned and improved Electric Motor. Our team of teachers and engineers designed the motor with inquiry-based learning and classroom use in mind. Your students apply their knowledge by building and testing motors with different configurations of permanent magnets, electromagnets, and switching discs.
The Timer II and Photogates provide precise measurements of the speed of the motor. A multimeter can be connected to measure current and voltage of each motor or generator configuration. These tools are ideal for conducting a complete hands-on electricity and magnetism lab sequence.
